Meloxicam
For an informed discussion with your doctor or pharmacist. This information collection is not a clinically validated interaction checker. Missing data do not establish safety. Do not change or stop prescribed medicines on the basis of this information. The findings apply to the specific conditions studied; laboratory and animal studies cannot be directly extrapolated to humans.
Active substance: Meloxicam
Examples of brand names: Mobec [DE]
ATC code: M01AC06
Main use (for orientation): Pain; inflammation
Documented research summary
The CYP2C9/3A4 inhibition hypothesis is biologically plausible, but not isolated human pharmacokinetic evidence for meloxicam with a cannabinoid. Veterinary studies show no established additional benefit of the combination over monotherapy; the newer extract study does not allow attribution to individual substances.
Uncertainties and limitations
Does not establish safety for less-studied cannabinoids or untested formulations/doses.
Do not infer clinical dosage from preclinical effects or enzyme hypotheses.
Separately recorded findings
2 separately recorded findings. Each statement applies to its documented study context.
CBD – laboratory and animal studies
Finding ID: B0364
Type of result: Preclinical evidence
Observation: No demonstrated additional analgesic benefit of CBD plus meloxicam over monotherapies in perioperative dog studies.
Mechanism: Pharmacodynamic combination assessment; no pharmacokinetic measurement.
Study type: Randomised veterinary studies
Context studied: 60 or 64 dogs, ovariohysterectomy, CBD 2 mg/kg orally every 12 hours and meloxicam initially 0.2 mg/kg intravenously/0.1 mg/kg daily, 48 hours. Pupillometry/Glasgow scale or thermography.
Clinical interpretation: No human recommendation
Limitations and uncertainties: Small groups; same team, ethics number CBS.066.21 and similar populations/protocols: independence not established, so do not count as two independent confirmations. The thermography paper reverses G2/G3 between abstract and methods; the direction of some temperature details is inconsistent. No pharmacokinetic interaction or human tolerability established.

CBD/CBDA/THC/THCA (extract) – laboratory and animal studies
Finding ID: B0365
Type of result: Preclinical evidence with substantial limitations
Observation: 2026 osteoarthritis dog study: cannabis group significantly different from conventional control at day 28, but NOT from placebo; not an isolated meloxicam combination effect.
Mechanism: Unseparated additional therapy within multimodal analgesia.
Study type: Randomised exploratory veterinary study
Context studied: 27 dogs, 9 per group, 6 weeks. Variable background therapy with meloxicam/carprofen/firocoxib and pregabalin. Cannabis versus placebo at day 28 p=0.493; versus control p=0.019.
Clinical interpretation: Hypothesis-generating, not clinically transferable
Limitations and uncertainties: No meloxicam subgroup analysis. Contradictory dose text: 1.16 versus 2.32 mg/drop, per dose versus daily dose; different baseline values, small sample. Do not present abstract percentages as established superiority. No general safety conclusion.
