Fluvoxamine

For an informed discussion with your doctor or pharmacist. This information collection is not a clinically validated interaction checker. Missing data do not establish safety. Do not change or stop prescribed medicines on the basis of this information. The findings apply to the specific conditions studied; laboratory and animal studies cannot be directly extrapolated to humans.

Active substance: Fluvoxamine

Examples of brand names: Fevarin [DE]

ATC code: N06AB08

Main use (for orientation): Depression; obsessive–compulsive disorder

Documented research summary

A retrospective suspected case with THC-rich cannabis and fluvoxamine is documented. The CYP explanation remains hypothetical, not a measured exposure change. No transfer to pure CBD or all cannabis products.

Uncertainties and limitations

Shared enzymes must not be equated with clinical evidence of an interaction; CBD/THC findings cannot be extrapolated to other cannabinoids.

Separately recorded findings

THC-rich cannabis (20% THC, 1% CBD) – clinical signals

Finding ID: B0276

Type of result: Suspected clinical signal during multiple-drug treatment

Observation: Tachycardia at 170/min, tachypnoea, dysarthria and auditory hallucinations reported.

Mechanism: Suspected case during co-use; CYP hypothesis unconfirmed

Study type: Retrospective selected reporting series, one fluvoxamine case

Context studied: 46-year-old woman, fluvoxamine 100 mg/day, also pregabalin/pitavastatin/ezetimibe; cannabis for fibromyalgia.

Clinical interpretation: Clinical warning signal, not established pharmacokinetics

Limitations and uncertainties: No medicine concentrations, control group or isolated causality. Product content is not the THC dose consumed; do not transfer to CBD isolate.
