Escitalopram
For an informed discussion with your doctor or pharmacist. This information collection is not a clinically validated interaction checker. Missing data do not establish safety. Active substance: Escitalopram
Examples of brand names: Cipralex [DE]
ATC code: N06AB10
Main use (for orientation): Depression; anxiety
Documented research summary
CL10 included people treated with citalopram/escitalopram and found increased concentrations with CBD. No separately verified percentage change in escitalopram AUC; do not present open-label sequential citalopram pharmacokinetic study CL11 as a pure escitalopram study.
Uncertainties and limitations
The rat experiment shows behavioural change, not proven benefit of combined human treatment.
Separately recorded findings
1 separately recorded finding. Each statement applies to its documented study context.
CBD – clinical signals
Finding ID: B0032
Type of result: Positive finding / indication
Observation: Citalopram measurements increased in the combined sample.
Mechanism: CYP2C19/CYP3A4 inhibition plausible
Study type: Small clinical ancillary investigation
Context studied: Shared exploratory subgroup of six people (15–24 years) receiving citalopram or escitalopram from an open-label study of 31 people in total. CBD capsules (>99.9%) starting at 200 mg/day, all reaching 600 mg/day by week 4; three increased to 800 mg/day by week 8. Measurements at baseline and weeks 4, 8 and 12.
Clinical interpretation: Possible; increase in adverse effects unclear
Limitations and uncertainties: No separate robust effect estimate per medicine and not an AUC study. Samples at 8–10 a.m. with usual individual administration times, not established as standardised trough concentrations. Antidepressant adherence mainly self-reported. Internal contradiction in the original: Table 2/footnote lists five escitalopram and one citalopram participant, whereas a results sentence reverses the numbers; keep subgroup allocation unresolved.
