Donepezil

For an informed discussion with your doctor or pharmacist. This information collection is not a clinically validated interaction checker. Missing data do not establish safety. Do not change or stop prescribed medicines on the basis of this information. The findings apply to the specific conditions studied; laboratory and animal studies cannot be directly extrapolated to humans.

Active substance: Donepezil

Examples of brand names: Aricept [DE]

ATC code: N06DA02

Main use (for orientation): Alzheimer's dementia

Documented research summary

Donepezil reduced memory deficits induced by repeated cannabis extract in a small mouse study. The extract was not isolated THC; its composition was incompletely specified and the intraperitoneal/subcutaneous route was reported inconsistently. CBD–Alzheimer's studies in 2026 use donepezil as a comparator, not in combination. No clinical evidence of a pair effect.

Uncertainties and limitations

Documented individual title/abstract review with selected relevant full texts; not an exhaustive worldwide systematic review and no independent human professional approval. Missing data do not establish safety. All 28 cannabinoids define the search scope, not 28 clinically studied pairs per active substance.

Separately recorded findings

1 separately recorded finding. Each statement applies to its documented study context.

Cannabis extract containing approximately 10% THC – laboratory and animal studies

Finding ID: B0477

Type of result: Context-specific finding

Observation: In the model, donepezil improved cannabis-associated water-maze deficits.

Mechanism: Cholinesterase inhibition influences cannabis-associated learning/memory effects.

Study type: Controlled mouse model, pharmacodynamics

Context studied: Six mice per group, repeated cannabis treatment; main text PMC4552130 read.

Clinical interpretation: Applicability to humans is unresolved; preclinical endpoint, not clinical evidence of treatment efficacy or safety.

Limitations and uncertainties: Extract, not pure THC. The original text contains an inconsistency in the administration route; no recommendation for clinical dementia or cannabis treatment.
