Dexamfetamine

For an informed discussion with your doctor or pharmacist. This information collection is not a clinically validated interaction checker. Missing data do not establish safety. Do not change or stop prescribed medicines on the basis of this information. The findings apply to the specific conditions studied; laboratory and animal studies cannot be directly extrapolated to humans.

Active substance: Dexamfetamine

Examples of brand names: Attentin [DE]

ATC code: N06BA02

Main use (for orientation): ADHD

Documented research summary

Evans' controlled cannabis–dexamfetamine experiment in 1976 showed additive effects on heart rate and blood pressure; psychomotor effects in the second experiment were similar to those of cannabis alone. A cannabis preparation, not purified THC; no pharmacokinetic evidence.

Uncertainties and limitations

Small historical experiments; participant number not stated in the abstract. Documented individual title/abstract review with selected relevant full texts; not an exhaustive worldwide systematic review and no independent human professional approval. Missing data do not establish safety. All 28 cannabinoids define the search scope, not 28 clinically studied pairs per active substance.

Separately recorded findings

THC in smoked cannabis – clinically studied

Finding ID: B0487

Type of result: Context-specific finding

Observation: The combination had additive effects on heart rate and blood pressure; psychomotor effects were not uniformly increased.

Mechanism: Additive cardiovascular stimulation from dexamfetamine and cannabis.

Study type: Controlled human experiments, pharmacodynamics

Context studied: Dexamfetamine 10 mg/70 kg; in the main experiment, cannabis containing THC at 50 µg/kg; additional conditions within the same research programme.

Clinical interpretation: Human endpoint directly studied under narrowly defined study conditions; long-term safety and generalisability not established.

Limitations and uncertainties: Small historical short-term experiments; do not count the two publications as two independent populations. No evidence of long-term safety or an identical effect with every formulation.
